E37: No write since last change
E37 means the file has changes you haven't saved, so Vim won't quit. Type :wq to save and quit, or :q! to quit and throw the changes away.
The keys
| Keys | What they do |
|---|---|
:wq or :x | Save the changes, then quit |
:q! | Quit and lose the changes |
:w | Just save, and stay in the file |
:qa! | Quit everything, losing all unsaved changes |
The full message is E37: No write since last change (add ! to override). Write is Vim's word for save, and the ! it mentions is the one in :q!.
Not sure what you changed? Press u a few times to step back through it, or :w to keep it before deciding.
